Most common reason for people getting stuck on Facebook or Twitter

May

I can remember being trained all day in preparation to jump out of an airplane and had to repeat an exercise 58 times in a row so my brain would remember it. Now I want to ask you to repeat a sentence that will create a pattern like I did to jump from 30,000 feet.

Simply repeat this to yourself and I’ll explain why. Say this out loud with me please. “All these activities create a story that pushes out into your friends ‘News Feeds’ creating valuable visibility”

This week it really hit me and I realized what is the most common reason for people getting stuck on facebook or Twitter. When I really dig at people as to why they have no respect or understanding of the value of facebook or twitter here’s what I get.

1) it’s just too much
2) who has time to read all that nonsense
3) wow, it’s so exposing myself to the world
4) seems really juvenile or collegiate
5) I don’t get it

Ok, now rewind with me here. Say it again with me. “All these activities create a story that pushes out into your friends ‘News Feeds’ creating valuable visibility”. “The activities” is plural, lets make this real simple and use it singularly. One activity, just one, create a story and that story becomes familiar to thousands of eyeballs following your twitter streams.  If a big company like Whole Foods with thousands of stores can use one main twitter account to do one activity, then it’s worth sharing.

Today, I open twitter and there was Whole Foods telling me THEIR OPINION on Twitter about lard that does not meet their quality standards. Now stop for a moment. Just one year ago, where would Whole Foods in an instant be connected to their millions of followers, and their followers, and their followers, all of these people who appreciate the Whole Foods culture, mindset, products,  etc…and reinforce their brand position and values. There wasn’t such an option.

It’s time for you to think about showing up on facebook and Twitter. Commit to just one tweet a day, that takes all but 30 seconds. Share your values and stand up for them and you’ll see too that when you show up and get real, people respond and want to do business with you. We live in very real times that call for real marketing antics.
