I caught my lovely Ellen Degeneres talking about Twitter with P-diddy, and how she needed it for her work. I immediately thought of you and your need for new business right now.

Some people learn Twitter because they need to for work. Others are using Twitter to find work.  HOT VIDEO “Twitter your way to a new job”

What's Your Companies Story for the World To See

Oh, you’re employed? Create a public relations goal and attract the media. Those writers for newspapers and magazines need to write stories. Consider your company’s news and events the next big story to explode your sales and marketing.

The media has to find their news, and it ought to be about you and your company and customers.

Social Media Best Ways to Stretch Yourself

It’s my job to help you stretch your marketing limbs and jump start this 2.0 buzz into action steps so that you keep in touch with your clients and keep the public and press abreast of breaking news.

I want you owning this statement. “Hey you hard to reach media people, Twit about ME!”

Jerry’s Twitter Tip

Your online information booth: Your company’s Twitter homepage shows up on Google searches, so use it to your advantage. If your website isn’t updated with what’s new and timely with your company and customers, then look to Twitter for a few minutes a day to begin your social media efforts. You got to start somewhere.

(If your entry needs to be explained, provide a link to your blog, which is also easily managed by a novice.)

The beauty of the 140-character limit: Make sure you’re being followed by reporters who cover your industry and market and “tweet” them with breaking news or upcoming events. Chances are that journalist gives more attention to an “instant” message than another two page press release via email. Additionally, it allows journalists to engage in your news on their own time — not a hurried phone call while they are on deadline. Make your message succinct and informative and use this vehicle sparingly. Saturation of this type of media is bound to come soon enough. Take advantage of this now!

Make yourself an industry expert: Don’t just promote your company, but become a source for consumers and reporters looking for information. Make sure to include helpful links relevant to your industry on your feed. Follow your Hart

Are You Alert?

My friend Mari Smith has jumped off with the 411 on Twitter and Your Keywords. She said last month….”Do you have your keywords set up on Twitter alert? You never know when your next best client is tweeting about the very problem you help to solve… or a media contact is looking to interview you about your expertise! Be sure to set up an array of your industry keywords and phrases, then follow and respond to people as appropriate.”

[For reputation management and seeing where you may want to comment, also set up alerts for your own domain name(s), and your own name including any common misspellings].

There are several great sites to set up Twitter alerts:

  • I’ve used http://tweetbeep.com for some time; they just came back online this week after a wee server challenge. Creator @mdjensen (Michael Jensen) is awesome.
  • There’s also http://tweetlater.com that provides a great array of Twitter tools, including alerts. Developer @dewaldp provides wonderful customer service.
  • Then there’s a new one I just came across http://twilert.com made by @danleach.

Word of warning — because “tweets” live on the web, it’s important to make them professional. Take care to edit and spell check your messages.

Are you overwhelmed by all the information? Come hear how you jump start social media in plain English. You get the 1-2-3 of how you grow business using Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube. No sales pitch. Isn’t that refreshing?
