HP vs. Dell
After meeting the CMO of [HP] Hewlett- Packard, I must share the short of it.
1) They identified top bloggers who talk about HP’s offerings.
2) HP developed relationships with those bloggers and incentivized them building loyal relationships between blogger and HP. A strategy that locks Dell out of the game of having a loyal relationship with those top bloggers selected by HP who’ve been seduced by HP
3) NOW, those authority Bloggers simultaneously receive new products or services and review them before advocating on their authority blog. If the product sucks according to the top 10 bloggers, the blogger sends product back to HP so that HP can revise and improve the product. Talk about controlling quality assurance of your products before they hit the market, huh?
4) HP unifies the 10 top bloggers in their space who ALL agree the product that HP is releasing is ready for the market. The top bloggers line up like a Roman Army and unilaterally blast the new product with rave reviews to their audiences.

You have many reasons to think long term so you have loyalty amongst your new sphere of authorities in your space. For now, don’t get caught up in how you plan to incentivize those bloggers, focus on appreciating their wisdom and attitude, and then build a campaign like HP did to rally all your sphere bloggers to promote your cause.
Stop being perfect and start producing an authentic interest with the marketers in your vertical.
And the Dell lesson? Be ready at any moment for a REAL LIFE moment you can share with your audience and watch that mutha go viral. [got your phone recorder on?]
